Angelica Kristenson Aurelius |
This Swedish painter whom I studied together with,
I think she was the most talented student on the Academy of fine Arts in Stockholm when I studied there and
still is one of Sweden's most interesting and powerful painters.Check out her site.
Expressive, powerful and very real are all her portraits!

I will bring many of her red haired pictures in this blog because I admire her work very much!
Look at the surfaces of color areas, Look at repetition of lines and colors, look at the small fine details
which all the time are there, even if the finish of the picture has the freshness of a sketch.
Monumental and powerful pictures that never loose the dreamlike atmosfeare.
Pia Ranslet "The year of the snails" |
One summer when I painted on Bornholm , the island was invaded
by a red snail ,which the News programs on TV in Denmark called " the
Killer snail". It ate absolutely everything. Millions of them everywhere.
You could hardly walk in the garden without sliding on a snail.
A few years earlier the foxes died out on Bornholm and there were no natural
predators, to take care of the snail problem. One way of collecting them was by
setting out a a bowl of beer. Snails from all corners of the garden would
" rush" to the beer and then drown. We could then collect them and trow them in
the garbage. My niece Anna showed me how they drank all the beer one evening .
Her red hair stood like a shield around her face. Just had to paint her again.
This huge amount of orange hair weighed up in a strong contrast,
all the blue and green around her .

The Kunffy Child
Remember the feeling of sitting in a chair or sofa so big that your legs
couldn't dangle down? This picture catches the clumsiness of the short body.
And somehow the dull colors brings back the memories
of how immensely slow reality seemed to be back then .
Every waiting got to be long and so boring really quickly.

Clothes are not what they once were ,I imagine the months it took to
make this dress, not to speak of the silk shoes.
Louise Breshlau |
This picture is a masterpiece!
Hans Olof Heyerdahl Norwegian Artist |
A figurative painting has an imagination of a room . It can be a psychological
room where an interaction takes place between the persons in the picture
and the different elements surrounding them. But there is also an interconnection with the viewer.
Are the persons on the picture in a natural situation or are they staged and
the room around them is arranged and chosen to fill out the the white canvas around the figures?
It is often a space that is more or less forgotten by the artist or it's value is secondary
and could be exchanged without any problem.
Because the artist put all the importance in the portrayed individuals. Like in the picture above!
The over sized dove doesn't have any importance in that picture nor do the grey brown stable behind!
the picture would not be less good with any other dark background or without the dove.

I would love to own this picture it is so fine in the matching colors and the fine light and details
and the frame fit so well.
Berthe Morisot |
When showing pictures of small girls Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot
are two of the very best. The love and understanding they have for children
is marvelous. This two artists portray young children's innocence in their paintings
and they always picture them in a natural position .
