To Ellen

This blog is made to the honor of my grandmother Ellen Elisabeth Thomsen who was a modern woman .
She was born in Randers in Denmark 1895 and died in Copenhagen 1976.
She had long salmon red hair down to her hips. It was braided and put up with lots of hairpins to make it look short.

Please notice all persons painted  have red hair.

All the pictures shown in this post are miniatures.
Some of them are for sale on E-bay or in German auction sites.
I don't know the name of most of the artists .
If any of the names shows up I'll add them in the future
Some of the Portraits are real portraits, but many are copies of old paintings
or just  pretty invented faces.
It takes time to find all the names so if you are aware of any please help!

Wonderful frame.

I like her nose! Wonderful little portrait.

One of this fantasy women.

This is not a red haired woman ,
but the frame is so impressive . I had to show it.

Little fine miniature.
Perhaps the red chain was a bad idea?

Wonderful frame.

Margarite de Valios

Typical souvenirs.

Carl J A Agricola

This one I love!
Few Miniatures are painted in front of the sitter.
This is just wonderful , how she shows of with all her finest jewelry, double chins,
and  the fantastic hair, even the small roses, which
weigh up all the blue in the picture.

A very fine little Miniature
Look the woman wears  a Turkish Ottoman  Cape.
I have a weakness for Ottoman textiles.

Copy after Greuze?

Love this one too!
Specially portraits where the sitter and painter were not afraid to show character !
Look how his hair is combed up and the soft smile and vanity.
It's a portrait that makes you happy.

This portrait is exelent !
Please write to me if you know any of the artists who made this miniatures
